Friday SEO Routine with Semrush

A full 8-AM-to-6-PM SEO workflow built on Semrush. Nine cinematic stops — from morning pulse check to evening reporting — plus a generator that builds a routine for your site.

Why this lesson

SEO is a craft. Crafts have rituals.

The reason most SEO programs stall isn't strategy — it's repetition. The pros run the same workflow every week, on the same day, with the same tools. That's how compounding starts.

This lesson gives you a battle-tested 9-stop Friday routine — exact tasks, exact Semrush features, exact outputs. Then a generator tailors it to your site type, team size, and available hours.

The Routine

9 stops. One day. Compounding gains.

Each stop is a time-boxed block with concrete tasks, Semrush features to use, and the output you should walk away with.

  1. 8:00 – 8:30Stop 1 / 10

    Wake-up & light breakfast

Don't start with dashboards. Start with focus. A light breakfast and zero notifications buys you a 90-minute deep-work block.

    Tasks

    • No phone for the first 15 minutes
    • Open notebook — write the ONE result you want by 6 PM
    • Brew coffee, eat light (energy without crash)

    Tools

Pen + paperFocus playlistDo Not Disturb

    Output

A single written goal for the day.

  2. 8:30 – 9:00Stop 2 / 10

Open Semrush — read the pulse

30-minute pulse check. Authority Score, organic traffic delta, top movers. You're not fixing yet — you're observing.

    Tasks

    • Authority Score: today vs last week
    • Organic traffic line: any sudden drop or spike?
    • Position Tracking: which keywords moved ±3 positions?
    • Top winning & losing pages this week

    Tools

Semrush · Domain OverviewPosition TrackingTraffic Analytics

    Output

A short list of suspect URLs and keywords to dig into next.

  3. 9:00 – 10:30Stop 3 / 10

    Technical SEO audit

90 minutes of Site Audit. Focus on issues that move rankings: crawl errors, broken links, page speed, internal link structure.

    Tasks

    • Run a fresh Site Audit crawl
    • Fix all 4xx and 5xx errors first
    • Check Core Web Vitals — LCP, INP, CLS
    • Find orphan pages and weak internal linking
    • Validate structured data on top 10 pages

    Tools

Semrush · Site AuditPageSpeed InsightsGoogle Search Console

    Output

A prioritized fix-list with effort vs impact.

  4. 10:30 – 11:30Stop 4 / 10

    Keyword analysis

Go beyond your existing rankings. Find keywords with high intent and reasonable difficulty — your next month of content lives here.

    Tasks

    • Open Keyword Magic Tool — your seed topic
    • Filter: KD < 40, Volume > 200, Intent = Commercial/Transactional
    • Save 10 keywords to a tracking project
    • Map each to an existing or new URL

    Tools

Semrush · Keyword Magic ToolKeyword GapKeyword Overview

    Output

10 new target keywords with assigned URLs.

  5. 11:30 – 12:30Stop 5 / 10

    Competitor analysis

One hour reverse-engineering your top 3 competitors. What's working for them = your shortcut.

    Tasks

    • Identify top 3 organic competitors
    • Run Keyword Gap — find keywords they rank for, you don't
    • Run Backlink Gap — find domains linking to them, not you
    • Inspect their top 5 pages: structure, length, schema, internal links

    Tools

Semrush · Organic ResearchKeyword GapBacklink Gap

    Output

3 stealable opportunities — one per competitor.

  6. 12:30 – 1:30Stop 6 / 10

    Lunch — disconnect fully

No screens. The afternoon block needs a fresh brain. A real lunch beats 10 cups of coffee.

    Tasks

    • Eat away from your desk
    • Walk outside for 10 minutes
    • No SEO talk, no email peek

    Tools

    Real foodDaylight

    Output

A reset brain ready for execution.

  7. 1:30 – 3:00Stop 7 / 10

    Keyword rank monitoring

90 minutes inside Position Tracking. Spot trends before they become problems. Plan defense for slipping keywords.

    Tasks

    • Filter Position Tracking: pages that dropped 3+ positions this week
    • For each: check SERP — did intent change? New competitor? Algo update?
    • Tag Quick Wins (positions 4–10 with rising trend)
    • Schedule SERP intent re-check in 30 days

    Tools

Semrush · Position TrackingSERP Features reportGoogle SERP manual check

    Output

List of pages to defend + list of Quick Wins to push.

  8. 3:00 – 4:00Stop 8 / 10

    Content review

Audit existing content against current target keywords. Most growth comes from improving what you already have, not writing new.

    Tasks

    • Pick 3 underperforming pages (positions 11–20)
    • Compare against top-3 SERP results — what's missing?
    • Add: depth, examples, schema, internal links, fresh date
    • Identify 1 content gap that needs a brand-new page

    Tools

Semrush · On-Page SEO CheckerSEO Content TemplateGoogle Docs

    Output

3 pages briefed for refresh + 1 new article briefed.

  9. 4:00 – 5:30Stop 9 / 10

    Implement changes

Execution block. Push the on-page fixes you identified earlier — title tags, meta, headers, internal links, alt text, broken links.

    Tasks

    • Update title tags & meta descriptions on priority pages
    • Fix broken internal & external links
    • Add missing H1/H2 hierarchy
    • Compress images & add descriptive alt text
    • Add 3-5 contextual internal links per refreshed page

    Tools

Your CMSSemrush · On-Page SEO CheckerImage compressor

    Output

    Pages re-published with verified fixes.

  10. 5:30 – 6:30Stop 10 / 10

    Reporting & next-week plan

Close the loop. A short report of what moved + a written plan for next Friday. Future-you will thank present-you.

    Tasks

    • Write a 5-bullet weekly summary (wins / losses / blockers)
    • Update the project KPI sheet
    • Plan top 3 priorities for next Friday's session
    • Schedule any waiting-for-others tasks

    Tools

Semrush · My ReportsGoogle Sheets / NotionCalendar

    Output

A reusable report + a clear plan for next week.
